While this Thanksgiving is going to be especially unique in our family (I'm due with baby #3 the day after!), it is a holiday that has already looked a little different for me each year. I grew up abroad, so my family's table was usually surrounded by a mismatch of guests—fellow expats eager to enjoy some of their favorite traditions, soldiers from the nearby Army base on R&R, and international friends experiencing their first American Thanksgivings, to name just a few. These dinners were casual, warm, welcoming, meaningful, and often a little bittersweet, as it always made us a bit homesick for the US (though the mashed potatoes and my mom's signature chocolate chip pecan pie proved a reliable cure).
Fast forward many years, I've enjoyed everything from big family dinners with my in-laws, to a just-us dinner starring my very first turkey in 2020. No single tradition has stood the test of time in our growing family, so for now, we're happy to go with the flow, ready to host or join in another celebration as the opportunity presents.
With that fluidity in mind, the ideas I pulled of what to wear for Thanksgiving work for a wide variety of dress codes. Whether you go all out in velvet or brocade or put an elevated twist on cozy with chic sweaters and knit pants, there's a little bit of inspiration for everyone. No matter the setting, I recommend our Catherine Loafer in Copper Suede—the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, thanks to its ever-classic silhouette, our signature scalloped band, and the dreamiest seasonal suede. Especially if you're a guest in someone else's home and not 100% sure what to wear, I have no doubt these loafers will be more than welcome anywhere.
