A Day in Charleston with Jillian Eversole

A Day in Charleston with Jillian Eversole

Welcome to A Day In, a series highlighting the best ways to spend a day in our favorite cities, through the lens of their most stylish locals. Come along as Jillian Eversole shares her recommendations for a perfect day in Charleston, South Carolina.

Tell us a little about yourself!

Hi there! My name is Jillian Eversole and I live in Charleston, SC with my husband, our two sons, and our two labradors. My world revolves around my sweet 21-month-old and 3-month-old boys, Rowan and Henry. During the few moments a day when I’m not currently in full mom mode, I enjoy sharing what’s catching my eye on my blog, Rhyme & Reason, and my Instagram

What is your favorite thing about where you live?

Absolutely everything! I think my favorite thing about living in Charleston is the way the city makes me feel: happy, inspired, and grateful. I walk out my door every day smiling because I get to live in such a vibrant city with such an incredible community. I cherish the friends we have in Charleston and honestly think I have a "pinch me" moment each and every day that I live in and get to raise my family in a place that makes me feel so happy. It is an incredible place to have children!

Which Maylis shoes are your favorites to wear out and about in Charleston?

I adore the Rita Mules! I’m constantly running out the door with my family or with girlfriends, so the ease of slipping into a beautiful and comfortable mule in a flash is very appealing to me. Plus, they are comfortable enough for me to wear while walking all over Charleston (I walk everywhere!) and look gorgeous paired with the most-worn item in my closet, dresses.

When is the best time of year to visit Charleston?

There isn’t just one time! I’d say April or May to experience Charleston at her most beautiful in peak springtime, the second half of October for lovely fall weather, or in December to experience the city decked out in full holiday decor.

If someone was spending one day in Charleston, what should their itinerary be?

If I were visiting Charleston for one day, I’d fill my day with so much goodness that the city has to offer! I’d start my day with a quick breakfast downtown at Harken Café before taking a walking tour of the city with Walk & Talk Charleston. I would then window shop on King Street and pop into a few of my favorite shops, including Beau & Ro, Hampden, LAKE Pajamas, Croghan’s, Amanda Lindroth, Under the Almond Trees, Madison Mathews, and Beckett Boutique. Next, I would enjoy a lunch of hush puppies, avocado toast, and siam salad at Leon’s before heading out to the beach on Sullivan’s Island for the late afternoon and evening. Finally, I’d end my day on Sullivan’s with dinner at Sullivan’s Fish Camp. Don’t skip on the frozen palomas. They are delicious!

Rapid-fire Charleston favorites:

Coffee shop: Harken Café
Brunch dish/restaurant: Chasing Sage. The french toast is the best I’ve ever had anywhere!
Street to stroll: Church Street
Store: Croghan’s Jewel Box
Outdoor adventure: Beach day on Sullivan’s Island
Rainy day outing: Shopping on King Street, a visit to the Gibbes Museum of Art, or a BYOB candle making class at Candlefish
Place to go with kids: The Aquarium
Place to go with friends: dinner at 167 Raw and dancing at The Commodore
Date night spot: Melfi’s, The Ordinary, or Chez Nous
Dessert dish/restaurant: The Carolina gold rice pudding at The Ordinary
Place to rest your head: Zero George or The Dewberry
