All About the Rita Mule

Thanks to our mild weather in Raleigh, North Carolina, mules have been a year-round staple in my wardrobe for a long time. I wear them with dresses in July, jeans and cozy sweaters in January, and truly everything in between. They're also a must-have in my wardrobe during pregnancy, when you simply can't beat the ease and comfort of a slip-on! Since mules are a style I personally rely on so often, I knew the Maylis collection wouldn't be complete without my perfect version, and got to work designing the Rita.

A few of the factors I considered during the design process:

A classic, polished aesthetic
A secure fit so women wouldn't feel like they were constantly stepping out of their shoes
Extra insole padding for an especially comfortable feel

Our team in Italy brought my sketches and notes to life beautifully, and I've been all too thrilled to reach for the results multiple times a week since they arrived!

Pointed toe

Since the mule is naturally a more casual silhouette than our other offerings, I wanted to include a few features to ensure the overall feel was still polished and elegant. Most significantly, I opted for a true pointed toe, paired with a widened toe box so that they still feel comfortable and secure. If you work in a corporate setting, rest assured that they look so chic peeking out below wide-leg trousers or styled with suiting!

Grosgrain piping

The grosgrain piping adds both another tailored touch and a little pop of color. I will be experimenting with all different color combinations in upcoming seasons to create unique looks—I already can't wait to share what we have coming up this fall! In the hopes of creating a year-round neutral for our Classics Collection, I paired custom Maylis Blue piping with Creme linen. It pairs perfectly with anything from dresses to denim, so it's easy to style in any season.
